Morning Brew – Wednesday, March 14: Candace Gingrich-Jones stars in a play about herself, Ruby Rose does Jessie J

Good morning! I’m half-delirious after a week of crazy in Austin, Texas. I fully plan on giving you the deets on what I did down there sometime this week.

But first, how amazing was Sarah Golden on The Voice this week? If you haven’t watched her performance of “Stay With Me” alongside competitor Juliet Simms, check it out so that I’m not spoiling things.

OK, sad! I wish Sarah was sticking around longer, but I have to say, I know she’ll go on from this to do great things. She sounded and looked great and I will miss her on The Voice.

Speaking of lesbians on NBC reality shows, Fashion Star premiered last night and Kara Laricks escaped elimination. Check out this video of her working on her menswear for women.

Ladies, please stop walking in the street. Other ladies in cars will jump out and scream at you and then the video will be posted as “lesbian streetfight.”

Another day, another high school yearbook censoring lesbians. Apparently holding hands is a form of excessive PDA. If that’s true, then I’ve been excessive with all kinds of people, even ones I’m not dating.

Ruby Rose dressed up like her tour pal Jessie J before joining her on stage for “Do It Like a Dude.” Why am I not in Australia right now?

The Washington Post attended a reading of Accidental Activist, a play about Candace Gingrich-Jones and how being a Democrat and a lesbian led her to be, well, an “accidental activist” when her brother, Newt, spoke out against all the things she holds dear. Candace’s wife, Rebecca Gingrich-Jones, wrote the play and one of the other “characters” in it is Rachel Maddow. Please bring this play to Portland, thanks!

Go behind-the-scenes with Syd tha Kid, as filmed by Lance Bangs. Choice quote: “I got bitches all over my room.”

Ben & Jerry’s has created a new flavor in the UK in support of keeping gay marriage legal when it is debated this spring. The flavor: Apple-y Ever After.

OK, this is kind of a tearjerker! Last week, Ellen DeGeneres had a lesbian couple going through some tough times on her show. Of course, she had to help!

But seriously, who chose the Shawn Colvin song? How gay!
