Morning Brew – Monday, Feb. 27: “Pariah” wins at Indie Spirits, Ellie Kemper talks her lesbian kiss in “Bridesmaids”

Good morning! Did you watch the Oscars last night? I think the most lesbianish thing that happened was on the red carpet before the show, when Ryan Seacrest asked Ellie Kemper about kissing her co-star Wendi McLendon-Cove in Bridesmaids. Ellie said it made her nervous because:

I feel like a girl would be more critical. Like, much more-I think there’s gonna be a lot more feedback from a woman than a guy.

I’m sure Wendi had no complaints!

Brenda Fricker plays a lesbian in Cloudburst, but she has one scene that she has to put her face on some dude’s junk! She said of the experience:

It was the worst day filming I ever had. We must have done about 50 takes and he kept spraying his b***ocks with perfume.

Wow, I’m sorry you had to do that, Brenda. I’m sure the scene is hilarious, though!

WNBA.com has a Q&A with Billie Jean King about her involvement in sports and what young girls today should know before they become athletes themselves, which Billie says they should.

Speaking of sporty gals, pro soccer players Lori Lindsey and Megan Rapinoe made a video of their attempts to pick out perfect gifts for one another.

I would accept any gifts from them, including a hug. Preferably a long hug.

Perhaps you want a long hug from Tegan and Sara. They might be too tired after their hard day’s work in this fitness center, though. Check out their new video for “Body Work” with Morgan Page.

You have to watch a lot of making out to get to the good part, but I promise it’s worth it. Alicia Witt and Elizabeth Banks totally french in this makeout video.

CNN has a blog about what Glee tells us about LGBT allies and how those who grow up in Christian households have changed their views on homosexuality.

Out Dallas judge Tanya Parker says she refuses to marry straight couples until there is marriage equality in Texas. Good for you, Tanya!

Canadians, check out the film Neverbloomers tonight on the CBC. It’s about bisexual director Sharon Hyman‘s quest to discover herself at age 40. Sharon told Xtra:

As one older woman says in the film, the most important thing is to be true to yourself. As my neighbour Marsha so perfectly explains about coming out in the ’70s, she realized it was such a waste of time worrying about what her parents thought, what other people thought. In the end, people have to accept you for what you are. And as long as you’re a good person, to hell with what other people think. And who knows this better than the queer community?”

Penny Marshall guest starred on Friday’s episode of Portlandia as the former owner of Women & Women First. Candace (Fred Armisen) was not so excited to see her at first, but Candace ends up kissing and making up with her (literally) by the end. I wish they had this clip or the one of the lesbian duo playing music on stage, but here’s one with Barbara (Marshall) and Toni (Carrie Brownstein) catching up.

Pariah won an Indie Spirit Award over the weekend! Specifically, the film won the John Cassavetes Award, which director Dee Rees and producer Nekisa Cooper happily accepted. Congrats!

Shay Mitchell appeared on Bravo’s It’s a Brad, Brad World last week as stylist Brad Goreski got her ready for an awards show.
