Morning Brew: Tuesday, June 22 – Another “Real Housewife” plays gay, Mirah and Thao Nguyen are together on stage and off

Morning!

For some reason, Lori Michaels cannot appear somewhere unless she’s announced as “lesbian superstar Lori Michaels.” The self-proclaimed LSS wrote a song for Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Staub (yes, the one with the sex tape) and performed it live with her on Watch What Happens on Bravo last night.

After the performance, the host asked if they were dating. Lori (who also refers to herself as “The Dyke Diva”) shook her head, but Danielle, who was sitting on the Dyke Diva’s lap, said “We’re not saying anything other than we’re together on this song, real close.”

Oh dear. Lori, I hope you’re getting paid a lot to be the new DJ Tracy Young.

Interested in what’s happening next on The Real L Word? Here’s a spoiler fro E!

More drama, of course. Anniversary drama, ex-hookup drama and fashion week drama. Mikey gets let down twice over, from her search for a venue for L.A. Fashion Week and from her girlfriend, Raquel. But the most shocking storyline is when Nikki finds herself jealous of someone else in Jill’s life … a dude!

I’m really resigned to the idea that the producers of the show don’t care about lesbian visibility or equality at all, and instead are focused on good TV. That’s all I can come up with as to why their storylines make lesbians look like non-monogamous, narcissistic power hungry women who claim they are more like a straight person or a gay man than a lesbian. Do you want to know how I really feel?

Lesbians, get ready: SyFy is asking fans to create a new movie. The site “B Movie Mogul” will launch, giving viewers the chance to “vote and pitch ideas for the film, from title, creatures, wardrobe, dialogue and character deaths to promotional taglines.” Have we ever had such a prime opportunity to put a gay woman in a sci-fi situations? Only in fan fiction.

Jane Lynch is the busiest woman in show business. She’s lent her voice and likeness to the new TBS animated comedy Neighbors From Hell. Here she is with her beaver.

And if you miss the Lynch on Party Down, fear not — she’ll reprise her role on the season finale this Friday.

In news that will shock no one, True Blood has been renewed for a fourth season. Get ready for more of my recaps, ya’ll — and for me to speak in a faux-Southern accent.

Gawker wants to know where all the bisexual men are. But really, the article has some interesting ideas about bisexual females:

Famous women coming out as loving both peen and vag is kind of nice, in a way. It may be a little meaningless, but it’s like breaking in the public for hardcore homosexuals. If we can get all the right-wing crazies in the flat parts of the country to embrace people who like both sexes, maybe they’ll get a little more comfortable with those who only jones for members of the same sex. Bisexuals are sort of like queer training wheels, weaning people off of their narrow vision of sexuality to open them up to the world of difference that exists outside of their “traditional marriage.”

It may go without saying that a dude wrote this piece. Feel free to comment openly on his post directly or below. I might have some more feelings to express myself.

Last week AfterEllen.com reader Kiley sent me a tip:

I work on and off at a music venue here in Florida. Last night we hosted the Thao and Mirah tour, which was entirely awesome, but certainly not as awesome as Thao and Mirah making out in the greenroom ALL night long. Judging by their chemistry on and off stage, there is certainly a romance of sorts playing itself out.

And now, my dear friend Zack Rosen at The New Gay is helping to confirm that the two musicians might actually be a couple. Check out his interview with Mirah below.

She’s so coy! And here’s them playing a song together. Cute.

Mirah is openly gay, and Thao has said she is “not straight.” Let’s hope to hear more from them — musically and otherwise — in the future.

Last night, Miley Cyrus dedicated her song “My Heart Beats for Love” to her gay fans while playing live in Los Angeles. Thanks girl. Now let’s commit to that girl kiss next time. She’s still doing the halfsies move.

OK come back for more later. XOXO.
