We need a hero. Well, to be more specific, we need a female action hero. While in the past and present we’ve seen Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton, Kate Beckinsale, Milla Jovovich and Angelina Jolie headline in their own action films, who will be the future female franchise star?
Yesterday, the iO9 list of “6 Stars Who Could Be the Next Female Action Hero,” was mentioned in the Morning Brew. But I think we can improve on their list and add a few of their own. In fact, I know we can. So let’s take a look at some of the potentially fiercest female ass-kickers around and handicap their action credentials.
Experience: This winter’s long-anticipated sequel Tron Legacy.
Pro: We already know she looks amazing in head-to-toe spandex.
Con: She is so gorgeous you’d never want anyone to hit her in her face – ever.
Experience: Star Trek, Avatar and the upcoming The Losers.
Pro: Looks great holding a weapon or wearing the color blue.
Con: She would need to bulk up into Linda “One-Armed Shotgun Cocking” Hamilton territory to look truly believable.
Experience: Fast and the Furious movies, BloodRayne, S.W.A.T, Avatar and Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Machete.
Pro: She has perfected the art of looking tough in a tank top.
Con: She has perfected the art of looking tough in a tank top so well, people have typecast her as a character actress and not a star.
Experience: This May’s blockbuster sequel Iron Man 2.
Pro: Fills out a bodysuit quite well, too.
Con: With all her dramatic experience, it’s hard to see her wanting to go action only.
Experience: Kicking Cylon butt on Battlestar Galactica.
Pro: Starbuck was one the best action heroines of the past decade.
Con: Her agent probably wants her to do something completely different next, like a dumb rom-com.
Experience: Firefly, Serenity and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Pro: Flexible, graceful, looks great brandishing a weapon.
Con: There is no con, why isn’t she an enormous action star already?
