Morning Brew: Monday, April 19

Hey good lookin’.

This past weekend was the GLAAD Media Awards in L.A. and our own Lesley Goldberg and Fortune Feimster were there to get red carpet interviews. We’ll have those all week for you, starting today with the cast of The Real L Word. In the meantime, here is World of Wonder’s coverage of the women at the event, including Wanda Sykes, Kirsten Vangsness, Nicol Paone and Cat Cora.

Are you aware there is a new film from Robert Rodriguez starring Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan? It’s called Machete and has gotten a release date of Sept. 30. Michelle plays “a saucy meat cleaver-wielding taco slinger named Luz” and Lindsay is April, “a socialite with a penchant for guns.”

Both women were at Coachella this weekend. I wonder if they got together to reminisce about all the action on set!

China’s lesbian magazine Les Plus has made its return after a 10-month hiatus. The publisher, who goes by the name Big Head, told Global Times:

We made an effort to make the magazine look like a normal, mainstream one, instead of one for a marginalized cultural group. Lesbians as a group need to stop hiding in their bubbles and step into the sun.

If you’re fluent in Chinese, check it out at lesplus.org.

This is either good news or bad news. Emily Rios, who plays a Maria, lesbian on Men of a Certain Age, has been cast as Epyck, a “goth rebel girl” on Friday Night Lights.

Best case scenario: Maria sticks around and gets more face time on Men, while Epyck shows up on FNL and romances the show’s current baby dyke, Devin (Stephanie Hunt). Seeing as how young actresses who play gay once generally get hired to do so again (Mischa Barton, Evan Rachel Wood, Mandy Musgrave), it is highly possible the rebellious goth chick would be perfect to give Devin more of a storyline.

Bollywood star and LGBT ally Celina Jaitley told reporters that she is looking at a script right now that would have her playing a lesbian. She said it’s not Indian, but that she hopes it works out. You might remember Celina supporting the relaunch of India’s only gay magazine, Bombay Dost last year.

OK Hollywood, let’s make this film happen. I expect to see a lot of sensual embraces!

See you later, friends!
