“Real Housewife” Kim Zolciak confirms lesbian relationship

Around the time that Real Housewife Kim Zolciak’s epically-named “Tardy for the Party” album was getting ready to drop, rumors began to surface that she was switch-hitting for the lezzies. We immediately applied the t.A.T.u. Theorem to the situation: [Off-season reality star records music + kissing girls = publicity!], but the buzz was pretty persistent. Finally, after denying it for weeks, Zolciak has confirmed that she is, in fact, in a relationship with Tracy Young, the DJ who mixed “Tardy.”

On a Bravo Watch What Happens Live segment earlier this month, Andy Cohen told Zolciak that he’d “heard [she’d] been swimming around in lady ponds,” which rightfully confused her, because what? Is that a thing people say? So he pressed on and asked her if she was “opening [herself] up to ladies.”

Zolciak told Cohen that she’d never been with a woman, and that the rumors were just fun and games.

A couple of weeks later, Young sat down with The Advocate to answer questions about Zolciak in an interview that got increasingly awkward (and awesome) as Brandon Voss tried to get a real answer out of her. He went from “Are you dating or have you ever dated Kim Zolciak?” to “How close is close?” to “Why didn’t you address the rumors on your Twitter or Facebook as soon as the story broke on March 1?” to my personal favorite “In a perfect world, would you like Kim to be your girlfriend?”

Young artfully dodged every question, which turned out to be a waste of time because in this month’s issue of Life & Style, Zolciak came out with the truth.

I don’t believe love has a gender. I have a ton of girlfriends who have been with girls, and I could never comprehend that before. Now I can. But I don’t want to define gay, bisexual or straight. I just think it’s too much for me – a woman doesn’t define me, nor does a man. I’m among the millions of parents who have been in a gay or lesbian relationship. It hasn’t been an easy road lately, but I feel there are no mistakes in my life. Everything happens for a reason. To have the opportunity to speak for myself and to have people understand what I’m going through is really special. I myself was confused and scared at first. Being able to speak from my heart and get this all out, it’s a huge relief for me.

And about their first kiss, Zolciak said:

We were both going through heartbreak at the time. I had split up with Big Poppa, and she had just ended a relationship she had been in for three years. The first night we met, we just connected on a different level. We ended up talking for two hours. After that, we started working in the studio together, remixing “Tardy for the Party.” We gradually became closer,” she added. “There were sparks, but [physically] it was a gradual situation. Tracy made the first move. Our first kiss was passionate and exciting.

This original story broke when US Weekly reported that Zolciak and Young’s relationship would be featured in next season’s Real Housewives of Atlanta. And God, how I hope that’s true. I know I’m supposed to say “Visibility” here, but mostly I want to see a person who has worked with Madonna handle NeNe Leakes.

And here’s another because I love you. (And because I’m from The ATL; I’ve gotta represent.)

What do you think of Kim and Tracy coming out as a couple? (Also: NeNe is amazing, right?)
