Morning Brew: Thursday, Feb. 18

Good day, gay women.

Originally filmed in 2007, The Headless Woman is opening in the UK this Friday. It follows a middle-aged woman in Argentina who has a “lesbian niece that is obsessed with her.” The lesbian, played by Inés Efron, tries to make out with her aunt and is also recovering from hepatitis. Wow, can’t wait to see how good that character ends up looking.

Perhaps a lesbian love affair in the Japanese thriller Love Exposure would be more your speed. Probably not — it’s a case of a man dressing up like a woman and starting a “lesbian affair” with his man-hating boss. It’s supposedly funny.

Kathleen Hanna is on GritTV this week, talking about her work with Le Tigre and donating her zine collection to NYU.

And now, Detective Olivia Benson says the words we never wanted to hear: She’s straight.

The Kids Are All Right premiered at Berlinale last night, and director Lisa Cholodenko and star Julianne Moore made a stop on the red carpet.

Smith College is about to get gayer. Oh wait — not really possible, I guess. At any rate, Rachel Maddow will be speaking at commencement this spring.

GLAAD has announced they will honor Drew Barrymore and Wanda Sykes with special awards this year. Barrymore, who will receive the Vanguard Award, said “I was born, bred and raised among diversity, it has defined me and made me the person I am today.” What, no mention of being (having been?) bisexual? Sykes’ statement: “I greatly appreciate the work that GLAAD continues to do, promoting equality, fair representation and tolerance for our LGBT community. I just pray that I don’t ruin what GLAAD has achieved with all of my shenanigans.”

There could possibly be photos of Australian Queensland Premier Anna Bligh kissing another woman, but the alleged owners Courier Mail aren’t telling. Tease.

Lastly, in a little bit of shameless self-promotion, I am going to be at SXSW Interactive Festival next month on a panel called “Engaging the Queer Community.” Yesterday, I went on the Feast of Fun podcast to talk about blogging, lesbian gossip and outing gay musicians, among many things! We’ll be having a get-together in Austin on Sunday night during the festival at Oil Can Harry’s and would love to see your face if you’re in town.

Happy Thursday!
