“Alone in the Game” Shines a Light on the Reality of Being an Out Athlete

Iconic gay and lesbian athletes discuss the many challenges they face in the world of sports in AT&T Audience Network’s new documentary “Alone In The Game.” The film follows a group of athletes and sports figures from the biggest stages in American sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLS, and NCAA, among others, to explore the ongoing struggles they are still facing at the professional, collegiate and Olympic levels.

The feature-length documentary premieres June 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Ahead of the premiere, AfterEllen obtained an exclusive clip featuring couple Layana White and Haley Videckis, basketball players who made headlines for their civil rights case against Pepperdine. Watch:

Featured perspectives include celebrated lesbian Olympic medalist Megan Rapinoe among others.

“It’s time to unveil such important and inspirational stories. We’re giving viewers a rare look into the lives of these elite athletes’ unique journeys and open their eyes to the daily challenges these athletes face on and off the field of play,” said David McFarland, “Alone In The Game” creator and executive producer.
