These American Olympians Skipped the White House Visit

On Friday, President Trump hosted American athletes who participated in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics, but popular athletes like skater Adam Rippon, ski racer Lindsey Vonn, and snowboarder Choe Kim declined their invitations to attend the ceremony. Rippon, who became the first openly gay American athlete to qualify for the winter games, has been very outspoken politically. Here’s what he and others had to say about their decisions to skip the ceremony.

While Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy are in the spotlight as the first openly gay men to compete for the U.S. Olympic team, there are a numerous lesbian and bi women athletes who made waves at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. According to Outsports, the 2018 Winter Olympics had the largest number of out gay, lesbian, and bi athletes of any winter Olympic games, with 15 openly gay and bisexual Olympians.
