Exclusive Video Premiere: Munroe Releases ‘Fake Out’

Last year, multifaceted artist Munroe released her gorgeous debut album Oblivion and today we’re bringing you the visuals for track “Fake Out”. From the cinematic album that’s equal parts uplifting and melancholy, the video follows suit by telling the story of a young woman escaping life in a factory town. The music video, which presents itself as a short film, is an examination of the female self and the many facets of female identity set against the sprawling landscape of middle America.

The video also serves as the director, Laura Maxwell’s, personal ode to mortality, loss, and the many regenerations of self we experience in our lifetime. Munroe has long been a fan of Maxwell’s work, “I trust her as a storyteller, so when she approached me about this video, I put myself entirely in her hands. It was the first narrative video for something of mine that I’ve been in – which had previously been an uncomfortable prospect for me. But I believe in Laura, and she approached it like a dreamy short film, which made it fun. From concept to execution, it was her vision. I went along for the ride.”

“Fake Out” is a dreamy, delicate illustration of Munroe’s otherworldly songwriting that perfectly accompanies the wanderlust-inducing visual. Check it out.

Keep up with Munroe on social, and we will surely be hearing more from her on AfterEllen in the future.
