This year the Screen Actors Guild Awards will make herstory by featuring only female presenters! For the first time ever, the 24th annual SAG Awards will see the 13 acting awards all be presented by women, and further, the signature Actors Stories that open the awards will exclusively feature female actors.
“We’re an awards show. We’re not trying to proselytize to anyone – the idea was to salute our women. So many of our women have been very, very brave, as have other women in other industries this year and we thought it was an opportunity to salute our women,” Kathy Connell, SAG Executive Producer, told EW.
Men will still introduce clips for the nominees in the film ensemble category.
Kristen Bell, a long time gay rights ally, will serve as the first-ever host of the ceremony, which takes place Jan. 21 on TBS and TNT.
This is excellent! Now we just need more lesbian representation, and we’ll be golden.
