Lez Dish It Out! AfterEllen’s Weekly Les/Bi Round-Up

TGIF, ladies! Welcome back to Lez Dish It Out. This week was full of lady-loving goodness, from the 10th Anniversary of The Con to a gorgeous montage of some of our favorite stars flowing in bi lighting. Lez get to it, shall we?

Celebs celebrate Spirit Day. Yesterday, both members of the LGBTQ community and its allies went purple in honor of Spirit Day to stand with LGBTQ youth and against bullying. Here’s a round-up of some of our favorite celebs who rocked their purple, loud and proud. I see you, The Fosters.

The stars of Will & Grace posted a video on Wednesday encouraging all of their viewers to go purple in support.

Tegan and Sara kick off The Con: X Tour. Tegan and Sara have been promoting the 10th anniversary of the album that really launched their career, and the tour finally kicks off tonight to a sold out crowd at the Balboa Theater in San Diego.

Here’s Sara doing a little brainstorming before the tour kicks into high gear.

The twins also released an album today called “The Con X: Covers”, which features new renditions of the old songs and collaborations with legends like Cyndi Lauper. All proceeds from this album go to the Tegan and Sara foundation.

This gem is currently on repeat in my iTunes, and I’m already packing my suitcase for the November 11th show I have tickets to in Washington D.C. See you there! Samira Wiley is under the rainbow. This girl is always shining bright like a diamond, and her only request is that we spread the love. We gotchu, girl.

Kristen Stewart spreads awareness at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood event. Earlier this week, Kristen Stewart introduced her friend and colleague Riley Keough as a spotlight honoree during the event put on by ELLE. Before bringing Riley out on stage, Stewart took advantage of the spotlight to shine some awareness on the topic of sexual assault and harassment, the #MeToo movement, and how important it is to intervene when you see someone being assaulted by an asshole like Harvey Weinstein.

Kristen said the following at the event:

I just want to express how thankful I am to hear what is typically a sort of like murmured pseudo-conversation because we’ve all been talking about this forever-not to make it specific, but it is, about this motherfucker.

Stewart also went on to recall several times where she prevented this type of harassment from affecting her colleagues when she was around to stop it in action:

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve saved makeup artists-because it trickles down to makeup artists, camera assistants-from DPs who are like, ‘Hey babe,’ you know like, it happens on lesser scales, too. And, um, when I say like ‘saved’ I mean momentarily been like, “Hey, don’t, fucker.” And then they’re embarrassed for one second but then it just keeps going every single day.”
Keep slaying, K-Stew. We won’t back down, and we won’t be quiet until these despicable actions are exposed and the men who are responsible are expelled and prosecuted. Demi Lovato outs herself in new documentary Simply Complicated In more positive news, Demi Lovato has finally confirmed she is indeed, one of us. Lovato has been open about some intimate details and experiences of her life, including her history of addiction, bipolar disorder, and self harm. The singer has been clean for the last five years.

However, one aspect of Lovato’s personal life that’s suffered from severe scrutiny over the years is her sexuality. She’s refused to label herself, working as a huge ally for the LGBT community without confirming whether or not she was indeed a member.

Several celebrities have sparked feuds with her over this secrecy, including Ruby Rose and Halsey, but now she’s decided to acknowledge her love for both men and women on her own terms.

When discussing her presence on the dating app Raya, Lovato says:

I am on the dating app with both guys and girls; I’m open to human connection, so whether that’s through a male or female, that doesn’t matter to me.
If you want to know more, Simply Complicated is now available to stream for free on YouTube.

Stephen Cone’s coming of age dramedy hits theaters this November, and although it’s always discouraging to see a story that explores female gender and sexuality be directed by a man instead of a woman, this film looks to have been treated with the delicacy and respect it deserves.

Princess Cyd follows a teen over the summer she spends with her aunt, and the two explore what it means to be a woman in every sense of the word, examining gender fluidity and sexual orientation across generations.
