Greek Week Pride 3

Got Greek pride? If you’ve always wanted to visit the Greek Isles and were looking for an extra reason to do so (not that you need one) there’s no better time to go than Greece Pride Week. It might be time to get your gay squad together because it has come to our attention that a global tour operator, Contiki, has created two itineraries specifically for gay and lesbian travelers. Both of these options look amazing.

Greece Week Pride Athens Pride runs for 10 days, and you’ll explore Athens, Ios and Mykonos. The trip features an extra day in Athens in the precinct of Gazi – one of the city’s main gay hubs. The next day you’ll kick off the Athens’ Pride festival.

Greek Week Pride Mykonos Pride explores Athens, Ios and Mykonos for nine days over the iconic XLISOR Mykonos festival (not included) which lights up the town of Mykonos with color.

Are you intrigued? Because we are seriously considering an AfterEllen staff trip! We spoke with Melissa da Silva, President of Contiki, about how much we need more lesbian inclusive travel options.

“Contiki has always been an inclusive company and we have travelers of every belief, orientation and background on our trips. Our travelers (as with most Millennials and GenZers) are not only inclusive and accepting, but baffled that some from other generations are not.  It is a “given” that all people should be accepted. There was a demand from our travelers to promote specific trips for the LGBTQ and friends community and we thought starting with a Pride trip to an amazingly inclusive country like Greece would be an excellent start. Through these itineraries departing Athens on June 9th and Mykonos on August 24th, not only give travelers the chance to explore the ancient metropolis of Athens, the iconic windmills of Mykonos and experience the party scene of Ios, they will also get an incredible extra – the opportunity to experience Greece Pride,” says da Silva.

The two trips cost around $1500 and $1200, respectively. We got our piggy banks out to start saving up for next summer. You only live once, right?
