Perhaps the gayest album to come out this week is none other than Pansy Division‘s That’s So Gay.
The San Francisco all-homo band debuted their queercore punk style in the early 1990s, and achieved admirable mainstream success in the next two decades with documentaries and books about their lives as part of a gay rock band. The album title is clearly an attempt at mocking the phrase so commonly used as an insult, which is something that Pansy Division has been innately about since its inception.

The former Drag the River frontwoman has continued to have her own successful career with her brand of American blues rock. Her tenth album centers around a recent break-up, so the tone of the tracks range from angry to humorous.
A Grammy-winning jazz vocalist, Krall manages to put out album after album of highly-praised performances. Some of the songs on the latest CD include covers of “The Boy from Ipanema,” “Walk On By” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Your Face.”
Folk-rock singer Maria Taylor has been able to move on from her persona as half the duo Azure Ray and created a name for herself as a solo artist on her previous two albums 11:11 and Lynn Teeter Flower. If you like singer-songwriters who lend their soulful songs to shows like Greek and Grey’s Anatomy, Taylor is your kind of pop music.
The second collaboration from these two musicians, Parish wrote all of the music while Harvey penned the lyrics for all 10 new tracks. The album is full of dark and poetic love songs, with a tinge less rock than you might expect from Harvey. It’s a pleasant escape from her past few albums, however, and the duo work well together in creating atmospheric gems like “Black-Hearted Love.”
