7 lesbian web series you should be watching

Fall might be the time of year where we think about our favorite returning television shows and exciting premieres, but it’s also the perfect time to start a love affair with some excellent lesbian and bisexual-focused web series. There’s plenty of steamy romance, supernatural happenings and lesbian drama to keep you warm on crisp October nights.

ABM is a web series that really changed what the medium could be for the better. Debuting in 2008 and ending in 2012, the series brought us the story of high school sweethearts Vivian and Aster, whose relationship is put to the test when Vivian and her father are forces to move away from New York City. Full of tenderness, chemistry and relatable drama, ABM made it’s mark and set the bar for what a webseries could be. Right now, stars Rachael Hip-Flores and Nicole Pacent are back in Anyone But Me: The Lost Scenes, which tell more of Vivian and Aster’s story but fit right into the previous story.

It’s hard to find another web series right now with as much appeal and star power as Carmilla. Lesbian love, non-binary characters, vampires, fish gods, and plenty of angst, this series really brought its A-Game in Season Two. With such a talented cast, writers and dedicated fans, it would be unthinkable for Carmilla to not get a Season Three but it’s always good to show your support to the powers that be. You can catch all of the first and second seasons now on YouTube, and stay tuned for the prequel, Season Zero, starting on October 22nd.

Alisha (a straight-ish woman) and Jaliyah (a lesbian) become roommates after their respective relationships fall apart. The two women bond and their growing emotional connection becomes a big part of the story. There’s also Jen and Kassie who embark on a relationship, which of course, will have its share of bumps in the road. The show’s finale will be airing soon, so now is the perfect time to catch up.

In this new Tello series, AE contributor and comic Mo Welch plays Alex, a lesbian with commitment issues who accidentally falls hard for her best friend and roomate’s girlfriend, Holly. Holly returns the feeling which can only mean a trail of broken hearts is in store for the group of friends. Dannielle Owens-Reid (Everyone is Gay) also co-wrote and stars as Kate, who also unexpectedly falls for an woman who forces her to face her own lesbian stereotypes. Step into The Chanticleer, where the dames are hot and the drinks are cold. Set in 1955, in upstate New York, the series is a pulp novel brought to life. Edie Chaucer inherits a seedy bar from her father, and puts her own spin on the place. Androgynous bartender Val falls for Edie, and we get a chance to see what life was like in the days before Stonewall. Sex, secrecy and scotch reign supreme. You can watch all six episodes here.

Brazilian-based Red bursts forth from the screen with passion and drama. Actresses Mel and Liz fall hard for each other while filming a movie, but other relationships and addiction won’t make their love an easy road. After two sexy seasons, Red is gearing up for a third and we can’t wait. It’s all available for free on Vimeo, so binge away.
