Where and How to Celebrate Pride in New York City

For New Yorkers, Pride is so much more than the big parade down 5th Avenue. There are events all week to get LGBTQ folks and our allies pumped up, so we’ve got a lesbian/bi pride guide to keep you dancing, connecting and having fun in the lead up to the big march.

Family Night at the Pier : If you have little ones, Heritage of Pride is throwing their annual movie night under the stars for LGBT folks and their children. Admission is free and this year they will be screening Finding Nemo at dusk. The weather should hold up, so grab a blanket and some snacks and enjoy. Hudson River Park: Pier 63, New York, NY

Karaoke at Stonewall Inn: What better way to celebrate to celebrate 45 years of Pride than at the place that started it all. Sing a tune and raise a glass to the Stonewall Inn who just received their historic landmark status this week. 53 Christopher St, New York, NY

Priday with Hot Rabbit: Hot Rabbit is one of the city’s most popular and raucous traveling parties. While it’s for everyone, you can definitely expect to see lots of ladies in skinny jeans and undercuts dancing the night away. Admission is $25 but a portion of that does benefit Marriage Equality USA. The Gramercy Theatre, 127 E 23rd St, New York, NY

Queercom at the PIT: Partying and dancing not your scene? Check out The People’s Improv Theatre’s Queercom, an LGBT Comedy Festival. There are dozens of acts to see, and for $40 you can get a pass to check them out all weekend long. 123 E. 24th St, New York, NY

New York City Dyke March: Organizers of the Dyke March say that the event is not a parade, but rather a protest. Visibility is still vital to the lesbian community and Dyke Marches are held in cities like New York, LA, Boston and London each year to, according to the official NYC Dyke March mission, “highlight the presence of Dykes within our community, and in protest of the discrimination, harassment, and violence we face in schools, on the job, and in our communities.” The march is also a hell of a lot of fun. The march begins at 4:30pm on the North Side of Bryant Park and makes its way down to Washington Square Park. Hot Rabbit is throwing the official afterparty at LOT 45 Bushwick. 411 Troutman Street, Brooklyn, NY

TEAZE: Saturday is definitely Ladies Night for Pride, with the official Women’s Pride Party TEAZE drawing huge crowds. The event (formerly known as Rapture on the River) features Ruby Rose, DJ Whitney Day and DJ Sherlock spinning tunes, and a performance by Rich White Ladies. The event is nearly sold out but there are still some general admission tickets available. Festivities start at 3pm. Hudson River Park: Pier 26, New York, NY

NYC Pride March: New York’s Pride parade is a celebration of all things queer. A time to remember our past and keep our eyes toward the future. Grand floats, music, celebs and more glitter than you could dream of. The parade starts at 36th and 5th Avenue, but the real excitement happens when you get closer to Christopher street. Noon on 5th Ave, New York, NY

The Party: If you missed DJ Whitney Day spinning at Teaze, you can catch her rocking The Party at The Marquee. This post-Pride party starts at 5pm, so grab a bite after the parade then head on over. Tickets start at $25 and go up to $600 for VIP packages. 21 and up of course. 289 10th Ave, New York, NY

Henrietta Hudson (Occupy Hudson Street): Lesbian bars across the country have been sadly shuttering, but Henrietta Hudson is still going strong. The party kicks off at noon and lasts long into the night. Cover is only $10 too. 438 Hudson Street, New York, NY

These are just some of the events happening this week, and we’d love to hear your suggestions in the comments of additional places to celebrate Pride.
