Would Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley qualify for the “Best Lesbianish Kiss” category?

Last week we told you that Sarah Silverman would be handing out the MTV Movie Awards on June 3rd, but weren’t yet sure to whom. Today MTV announced the nominees:

The MTV Movie Awards are the unisex bathroom of award shows, with male and female actors up against each other in the “Best Performance” and “Best Comedic Performance” categories. While they look equally fetching in heavy eyeliner and pirate breeches, I’m guessing that lesbianish man Johnny Depp will edge out Keira Knightley for the gold-plated bucket of popcorn this time around.

Lesbians everywhere will probably share my amusement at seeing both Emily Blunt and Lena Headey nominated for “Best Breakthrough Performance” after both have already so effectively broken through to us in My Summer of Love and Imagine Me & You respectively.

No, it’s not the Oscars. Hell, it’s not even the Golden Globes! But the MTV Movie Awards show can be fun to watch thanks to the increased likelihood of any given presenter or honoree veering off into inappropriate territory when they take to the podium. That’s especially true this year with professional loose cannon Silverman hosting the live ceremony (yes, live and no, I don’t know what they were thinking). And the possibility of seeing Meryl Streep turn up to accept her award amidst the MTV mayhem is reason enough to check out the show.
