Morning Brew – Wed. Feb. 13: Tegan and Sara on “Ellen,” Elisha Cuthbert’s celebrity crush is a powerful woman

Good morning!

How cute it is that Ellen says she loves Tegan and Sara “so much”? They perform “Closer” on her show today.

Hilary Rosen has joined The Washington Post as a contributor to their Opinions section. Yay, a lesbian opinion!

This Guardian piece says the “revival” of butch/femme relationships means we’re all turning more heteronormative. I respectfully disagree.

In this month’s Maxim, cover girl Elisha Cuthbert says she has a crush on Oprah. She also can’t believe she’s named the hottest woman in television.

To think that one person could be the most beautiful when there’s Kaley Cuoco, Sofía Vergara, Zooey Deschanel? They’re all stunning. I’m not gonna fight anyone about it, though. I’ll accept it with grace. But being on a show with two other beautiful women, this is gonna make going to work very uncomfortable.

k.d lang will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this year. The crooner said in a statement, “I’ve had a constant craving for this.” Just kidding. She said:

To be included in the lineage of Canadian artists who have formed my musical DNA and who remain my mentors, is beyond humbling.

Jillian Michaels thinks it’s bullshit that a film critic has called Melissa McCarthy “a hippo.”

Singer Rita Ora joked that her BFF bisexual model Cara Delevingne is her wife.

She’s officially mine. She’s, like, untouchable. I’ve taken her off the market. We call each other “wifey.” You know what a wifey means? It’s like your other half. Like when you get married, like, that’s your wife!

I think we get it.

Bisexual musician Sally Shapiro has released a new video for “Starman” and it’s super gay. Sally said of the video:

A starman, in this song, is someone who interests you despite, or maybe because of, being different than the people you usually surround yourself with. Given that a few of our other music videos have depicted boy-girl-love, we wanted the music video to illustrate something less heteronormative. We had already asked German director Edwin Brienen to direct the music video when we told him that. It turned out that he was gay himself so he was enthusiastic to come up with the music video concept that we went for!

That’s “heteronormative” twice in one Morning Brew!
