Morning Brew – Tues. Nov. 27: Martina Navratilova to guest star on “Portlandia,” Dolly Parton still denying lesbian rumors

Good morning!

What do you call your partner once you get married? I say “my wife,” but apparently some lesbians call their partner their husband. Some straight people call their spouses their “partners” and confuse me so it’s fine.

Guinevere Turner has adapted a sad but moving stage play into a film that need your help getting funded. Check out Facing East and see if it’s something you’d donate a few bucks to.

Every year or so Dolly Parton is asked, yet again, if she’s a lesbian. She just loves her BFF Judy!

Judy and I have been best friends since we were like in the third and fourth grade. We still just have a great friendship and relationship and I love her as much as I love anybody in the whole world, but we’re not romantically involved.

She likens their relationship to the one of Oprah and Gayle. Some women are just really good friends guys! And some have lesbian haircuts.

Perhaps Dolly needs to read this Salon column: “Everybody thinks I’m a lesbian!”

Portlandia has announced even more special guest stars for their third season and one of them is Martina Navratilova. Could I be more excited?

Ewan McGregor said he was devastated that HBO decided no to go forward with the adaptation of The Corrections and I feel the same way. At least he got to watch the pilot. I love that book and Maggie Gyllenhaal playing the lesbian sister Denise was such a good call. Ugh, now I’m depressed about it again.

Ever wonder what your day would be like if Rachel Maddow was your partner? No? Good, because she’s mine.

If you’re in New York, check out “Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen” at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. It includes seven pairs of her famous trousers.

If you still haven’t seen Hit so Hard, what are you doing? Patty Schemel talked with i-D magazine about the message of her film.

For me, it’s about the journey. Choosing an instrument that is not one that girls play and then being successful, coming out as a lesbian and also being an alcoholic and drug addict. Some great musicians that were peers died at that time but I survived. Either you die, go crazy or your end up in an institution. I got to a point where I lost everything and had to reinvent myself. It was a document of that story; the near death of me. It sounds dramatic but I think I made it out… barely.

Your Sister’s Sister won Best Ensemble Performance at the Gotham Awards last night. Stars Rosemarie DeWitt and Emily Blunt accepted the award at the New York ceremony.
