Morning Brew – Tues. Aug. 14: Jodie Foster helms a female mob boss show, Wendi McLendon-Covey plays a lesbian on “Modern Family”

Jodie Foster is developing a female-centric mob series for Showtime. Angie’s Body is said to be “a Sopranos-like drama that follows a shrewd and lethal woman who runs a family-based crime syndicate.” It doesn’t look like Jodie will star in it, but she is going to direct and executive produce. It’s Showtime so I hope there are lesbians.

Remember when Wendi McLendon-Covey got drunk and kissed Ellie Kemper in Bridesmaids? Well now she’s committing to being a lesbian on Modern Family. The funny lady will be playing “one-half of a lesbian couple whose son gets into a fight with Lily on the first day of kindergarten.” Michaela Watkins will be her wife and Wendi tells EW:

I can’t wait. I go in and film it tomorrow and Wednesday and Thursday. It’ll be pretty fun. I usually play someone who hates her kids – this time I love my child!

As all lesbians do, natch.

Out director Coley Sohn’s film Sassy Pants has been acquired for video-on-demand and theater release this fall.

UK lesbian reality show Candy Bar Girls Christina Novelli is also an aspiring pop star. She told Gay Star News:

In my family I never defined someone as gay or straight. They’re just people. It’s about who you are as a person and what you do, not who you prefer to have sex with. I look at the artist and whether they can perform or sing, not their sexuality. I’ve fallen in love with guys and girls before and they’re two completely different feelings. I’m lucky in some ways to be able to experience both sides. I class a lesbian who won’t be with a guy and only want to be with women. But I see the beauty in both.

Bomb Girls‘ Season 2 is in principal photography and a press release gives us a glimpse at what we’ll see from our favorite BGs:

Betty McRae, played by Ali Liebert (Hellcats), searches for home both literally and figuratively, grappling with her identity, working to feel safe in her world. And what of Kate Andrews?
