Morning Brew – Wed. Aug. 8: Syd tha Kid talks being gay and not a feminist, Melissa Etheridge on Chik-fil-a

Morning!

Seimone Augustus was on ESPN’s Outside the Lines this week and discussed coming out.

I was on such a high note, as far as being happy with who I am, it didn’t really matter what anybody else thought. … It really was a non-issue. Every text, every call, every email, any time of communication I received has been positive.

As it should be, Seimone!

Marlene King says we will find out who killed Maya on the August 28 finale of Pretty Little Liars. She told TV Guide:

I actually like to think of this episode as justice for Maya.

Melissa Etheridge talks about hew new album, 4th Street Feeling, with VH1. Also her feelings about Chik-fil-a.

Girl in a Coma have a new video for their song “One Eyed Fool.” They’re preparing for a tour with Cursive and Minus the Bear, as well as a few select dates with Alkaline Trio.

Syd tha Kid talked with Mass Appeal about her career and coming out, which she said she never really did.

To be honest, for the longest I never said I was gay, and that’s the funniest part. (Laughs) That’s the funniest part, and I did that for a reason, just to keep everything open-minded and not close any doors for myself, you know? I feel like, you know, I’m not ignorant. I see a lot of females making music who are like me who are trying, but they try to use the gay thing too much. They try to take advantage of being gay and it’s like, if it’s really who you are, be who you are. So for me, it’s been the same with being a female and being, you know, having whatever preference I have. [I] just try to make it about the music and nothing else. Nothing else, people got thrown off when “Cocaine” was the first video, but I’m not about to be in a video kissing a dude, that’s just not me, so it’s the only way to go really.

She also says she’s not a feminist because she “believes in equal rights for everyone.” I keep reminding myself she’s only 20. I bet her Odd Future friend Frank Ocean would say he’s a feminist.

Jane Lynch talked with The Hollywood Reporter about Sue Sylvester’s new baby.

Attention lesbians! (And bi/bicurious/sexually fluid/questioning/any other label of gayish you can think of girls!) MTV is casting for another It Gets Better special. They are looking for people “who appear to be 15-25, and want to share their stories and experiences about growing up LGBT.” I’d love to see some AfterElleners on there.
