This piece about homophobia within women’s sports at Florida Gulf Coast University is really telling. If your coaches aren’t going to stop homophobic teammates from saying hateful things, how are gay players going to feel safe? Apparently “No bow, lesbo” is a thing in softball and parents have asked coaches if there are a lot of lesbians on their teams. You learn something new and crazy everyday.
Speaking of sporty gals, Clare Balding did a live web chat where she felt her comments were misconstrued. She did not mean to infer that being a lesbian makes her a better sports presenter, as The Daily Telegraph reported. “For the record,” she tweeted, “I do not think ‘being a lesbian makes me a better sports presenter’ any more than ‘being straight’ would.” That’s probably true, but it probably doesn’t hurt!
