Morning Brew – Wed. June 13: “Dyke Hard – A Lesbian Rock ‘n Roll Musical” needs your help, Emily Blunt on “My Summer of Love”

Morning!

I’m so psyched to go see Sarah Jaffe tonight in Portland. It’ll help me get over last night’s Glee Project.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has created a video for Pride Month. She’s like “Love who you love!” And I’m like “I will!”

The good news: Silent Valley is described as a South Indian lesbian thriller. The bad news? I can’t tell if this description means they are the good guys or the bad guys.

The movie is about two honeymooners who are entrapped by two women during their trip to a valley. Rithu Mangal and Agatha Magnes play the lesbian couple. The film has been shot in the beautiful locales at Wagamon and Kuttikkanam, and is due for release soon.

Hoping they are the honeymooners.

Emily Blunt said that doing My Summer of Love prepared her for the heavy improv work she had to do in Your Sister’s Sister:

It was my first movie and I didn’t know what I was doing and it was all improv. I did learn on that how extraordinary the moments are that you can capture, and I remember moments on that film where it was like the air shifted in the room because, with your costar or director, you manage to create a moment that is so raw. You would never get that in a scripted movie and I think I was desperate to have that again. So when [director] Lynn [Shelton] approached me about this it seemed really appealing and necessary.

I had no idea My Summer of Love was mostly improv. I’ll have to go back and rewatch it now.

Lady Sovereign is selling her T-shirt from her “Love Me or Hate Me” music video on eBay. She even autographed it for you!

You might have heard about this study where it was concluded that kids of same-sex parents are worse off than those with a mom-dad scenario. Well thank god Helena Andrews is saying “I call bullshit!” about it over at xoJane. The novelist has a lesbian mama and says “my mother’s sexuality had little to do with how awesome or awful she was as a parent.” I’m pretty sure that if I was a terrible mom, it’d be because I’m selfish, not because I’m a gay.

There is a movie that needs your support and it is called Dyke Hard: A Lesbian Rock ‘N Roll Adventure. Here’s why it sounds like a dream:

Dyke Hard, a feature length movie currently being filmed in Sweden, follows a female rock group on their way to a battle of the bands in the big city. Along the way, they team up with a thaiboxer on her way to a martial arts tournament. As they journey, they must battle ghosts, ninjas, cyborgs, prison breaks, evil roller derby girls, a motorcycle gang and a mysterious billionaire who’s doing everything to stop them. Aside from being an action/sci-fi/horror/band movie/road trip/comedy, of course Dyke Hard is also a musical and of course the story takes place in the 1980’s when fashion peaked. In true John Waters spirit it explores female comedy to the shocking max.

They’re only trying to raise $5000 and are already $1000 in. Throw them a couple bucks if you know you’d watch the shit out of this.

Raven Symone performed yesterday at NYU Cooper Union’s Great Hall for the LGBT Pride Celebration. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
