Chicks Getting Hitched: 2013 Runway Report

I’ve been dreading it for a while, but I knew this day eventually would come: The first Bridal Fashion Week after my wedding. My Facebook feed is flooded with images of lace and tulle as designers roll out their Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 collections, which they unveiled last week in New York. Short dresses, long dresses, gowns made of lace and (glittery!) tulle, vintage inspired looks and cutting-edge designs we’ve never seen before — and I can’t buy a single one of them because I am already married. Sigh.

For all of you lucky ladies still planning your big days, here’s some bridal porn, hot off the runways.

1920s style glamour is big huge in wedding fashion right now, and I suspect the release of The Great Gatsby movie next month will fuel the trend. Channel your inner Daisy Buchannan with a sexy satin column dress like this one by Maggie Sottero.

More of a leather than a lace kind of a gal? Then Vera Wang’s latest collection might thrill you. Check out the ball gown with the black leather bodice. Hot.

I’m a huge fan of sleeves on wedding dresses, especially of the beautiful illusion lace variety like the one on this high drama Marchesa gown.

Who needs a boring old white dress when you could have a romantic gown in the perfect shade of pale pink? Would you call this Oscar de la Renta beauty blush or bashful? Either way, it’s a showstopper for a sunny spring or summer wedding.

Typically, I gravitate toward dresses with lots of volume and frilly details, but I love the structured simplicity of the Amsale gown on the left. Sheer boleros like the one shown with the dress on the right were all over runways last week, but I’m not feeling that look just yet.

If you’re the kind of bride who wants to be able to walk normally as well as other dignified things like use the bathroom without assistance, a short dress is the way to go. This darling Monique Lhuillier lace number is perfect for tying the knot in a courthouse or for a casual wedding.

For the lady who wants to wear a dress on her wedding, but doesn’t want to look super femme, try a structured sheath like this one by Austin Scarlett of Project Runway fame. It has an almost tuxedo-like quality about it.

I love the Christos dress in the bottom right corner. It’s got a mermaid-like top and a soft flowy bottom — perfect for a beach wedding.

There’s a whole lot to love about this pretty Tara Keely Lazaro gown. You’ve got of-the-moment illusion lace and cap sleeves, a timeless silhouette and a flattering cinched waist. All of that, plus pockets!

You’ll look like a blushing bride imported directly from 1952 (in a good way) wearing this vintage inspired Maggie Sottero gown. Covered up is sexy when it’s a classic neckline like this one.

Last but not least is this adorable tea length charmer by Oleg Cassini. This is from the designer’s 2013 collection, but I stumbled across it in searching for the newest looks and I simply couldn’t resist sharing it with you. It really doesn’t matter when this dress came out because it is positively timeless. This sweet dress would be perfect for a wedding in a rustic barn, at an elegant brunch affair or afternoon nuptials in the park. I’d happily pay a pretty penny for this dress, but you don’t have to because it is sold at David’s Bridal, where you’re sure to get a bargain. You’re welcome.
