Morning Brew – Tues. April 24: Lesbian wrestler Stephany Lee qualifies for Olympics and gets married, Erin Foley’s set on “Conan”

Good morning!

Out wrestler Stephany Lee qualified for the Olympics over the weekend, and then she married her partner, Brigg McDonald. The New York Times wrote about the ceremony (with pictures), Stephany’s personal journey to the games and also included the stats on openly gay athletes from past years. It’s a great read. Congrats Stephany and Brigg!

Rosie O’Donnell apparently took a big loss on her Chicago home. Sadly, I don’t think it helped her feel good about the demise of her show in the Windy City. She did, however, appear on The Today Show this morning, offering commentary on their segment called “The Professionals.”

Congrats to Liz Feldman and Tucky Williams for making The Advocate‘s 40 Under 40. The list has a lot of other great queer people to know, so make sure to give it a read.

Upstairs/Downstairs has not been renewed for a third season by the BBC, so it looks like that last ditch lesbian effort wasn’t able to save them. Now we just have to hold on for some Sapphic action on Downton Abbey.

Just in case you missed Erin Foley on Conan last night, don’t say I never gave you anything!

Robert and Michelle King, aka the creators of The Good Wife, told Entertainment Weekly how they decided to shoot that Kalinda/Lana sexy scene this week:

There was what we all came to know as the “genital manipulation shot.” It’s very funny to talk with Standards & Practices, who are all very nice people, and negotiate how much we could see of a thrusting hand and so on. Jill Flint and Archie Panjabi did such a wonderful job in the scene. We’ve always thought sexiness was better played on the face, but it was difficult to get around [what was happening below frame]. All we could do was plead the fact that you couldn’t see the scene if you framed it any differently. I think we compromised slightly – we would have gone out maybe another few inches – but I think we reached a nice compromise.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. King!

If you’re dying for more GLAAD Awards coverage, here’s World of Wonder’s interviews with Tabatha Coffey, Michelle Paradise and more.

I’m so glad Tabatha was asked about Kate McKinnon doing an impersonation of her on SNL. Happy to hear she liked it!
