Gay Women who Rock: 45 Years of “Rolling Stone”

In November it will have been 45 years since Rolling Stone was founded by gay publisher Jann Wenner. With iconic cover photography by the likes of out lesbian Annie Leibovitz, the music magazine has been a portrait of liberal arts and culture since it launched in the 1967. In that time, the magazine has changed its format and frequency several times, but there have been many out women as part of its history. To help celebrate their getting over-the-hill, we put together our favorite lesbian and bisexual women who covered Rolling Stone over the last 45 years.

One interesting tidbit: Joan Jett has never been on the cover of Rolling Stone, but she has been on the front of their Australian version. Portia de Rossi has also graced the over of Rolling Stone Australia during her Ally McBeal fame.
