Gaming is for Girls: Katy Perry does “The Sims”

“Banjo-Kazooie” heads to XBLA ahead of “Nuts & Bolts”

Remember “Banjo-Kazooie” on the N64? If you loved that title and own an Xbox 360, we’ve got some great news for you: In November “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts” makes its exclusive debut and you’ll be able to download the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of the original game for free.

“Banjo-Kazooie” will feature graphical improvements and full support of gamer scores and achievements, and will be available for 1200 Microsoft points when it launches this November.

If you want even more “BK” goodness, “Banjo-Tooie” is also heading to Xbox LIVE Arcade in early 2009, making the Xbox 360 the new home of the beloved franchise.

Bungie teaser trailer for “Halo 3” reveal

Bungie loves dangling the carrot. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s just annoying. With the most recent “Halo” teaser, it seems most gamers feel a bit let down as they expected something more. The “big announcement” Bungie teased us with is a trailer for a new “Halo 3” project. The teaser footage showed pods from the sky crashing into a city. It seems like players will be taking on the role of a soldier in the city (now ruined) to fight whatever was in the many pods. Sounds like some fresh new campaign for “Halo 3” fans, but still no one is clear on what it actually is — not that it matters; it’s “Halo” so it will sell bucket-loads.

Katy Perry does “The Sims” in new single

She’s not kissing girls — she’s Simming this time. If there’s one thing about Katy Perry you have to admire, it’s her finger on the pulse of pop culture and what’s seen as “chic.” Perry’s new video for the single “Hot N Cold” features a Sim version. Sung in the unique language of The Sims (Simlish), the video was made using all game play footage from “The Sims 2” PC Games.

“Being a gamer myself and a big fan of ‘The Sims,’ I had a blast recording ‘Hot N Cold’ in Simlish,” Perry said. “The essence of ‘The Sims’ is all about creativity, community and humor which is also the foundation for making great music, so it’s a perfect fit.”

FOX launches “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” game on iPhone

Fancy yourself as a terminator or a human avoiding termination? FOX Broadcasting has just launched a web and iPhone-based game called “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles — Ambush.” “Ambush” is essentially a simple take on the MMORPG in which those taking part play in a virtual city, but are tracked via iPhone’s GPS. You create an account, choose your allegiance (human or terminator) and try and survive while either protecting or eliminating Skynet (the self aware computer system from the Terminator universe).

Don’t worry, you don’t actually have people firing water pistols at you (or worse), it’s all about strategically figuring out where someone is going to appear next based on their GPS signal. You set a trap, and if they go to the location where you set the trap, you beat them, and they get a message on their phone saying “You’ve Been Terminated.” The iPhone application can be found for free in the Apple Store.

At LesbianGamers this week, we’ve got news of those new Xbox ad spots that actually feature girl gamers (gasp!). We take a look at “Gears of War 2” and question the lack of strong female Delta Squad members. On the same theme, we also look at who we’d cast should the “Mass Effect” movie ever get made and Clea DuVall makes the grade.

Over at Lesbian Geek, we’ve got coverage of the “Fathom” movie rumored to have Megan Fox in the lead role of heroine Aspen Matthews. The Geek also gets a little political regarding certain bumper stickers.
