Hey, remember back in July when I showed you that teaser trailer for Sucker Punch with all the steampunk girls in short skirts brandishing assault riffles while delivering a full-on aerial assault to a giant monster robot with a flame-thrower? Also, there was a dragon.
Well now the full theatrical trailer is here and it sheds a little more light on the story and a lot more light on the action. Buckle up and grab some popcorn – this is gonna be good.
I know, right? The previews just keep getting better and better. And now the strange fantasyscapes filled with World War II imagery, samurai soldiers, a dystopian Oz and dragons make a little more sense.
The movie revolves around a young woman named Baby Girl (Lemony Snicket’s Emily Browning) whose evil stepfather locks her away in a mental institution. To escape she enlists her fellow inmates (Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish and Jamie Chung) for a series of quests through treacherous fantasy planes in her mind to find five items that will set them free – I think.
Also, it just looks cool. Emily, Jena, Vanessa, Abbie and Jamie make an attractively formidable group of girl warriors. I’d happily watch them wreak havoc on whatever reality is available to them, alternate or otherwise.
The movie is set for release March 25 and I’m already anxious to buy my ticket. The striking imagery along, from the director of 300 and Watchmen, seems worth the price of admission. What do you think? Are you prepared for all that awesome?
