Zooey Deschanel is currently gracing movie screens in Bridge to Terabithia (haven’t seen it, but I loved the book when I was a kid). Her next appearance in a fantasy (um, other than personal ones) will be as the main character in the Sci Fi channel’s retelling of The Wizard of Oz.
Deschanel will play DG, a young woman — think Dorothy — who finds herself transported from her dull life into the O.Z. (Outer Zone), a fantasy-filled world of wonder that’s also plagued by dark magic. She’ll star opposite Alan Cumming, previously cast as the Scarecrow-like character of Glitch.
Hmmm, Alan Cumming as the Scarecrow — that’s pretty brilliant. Let’s see, who should play the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man? I vote for America Ferrera and Hillary Clinton, respectively. And respectfully.
