Fox gives Jennifer Beals a pilot (and a badge)

Jennifer Beals is certainly finding ways to keep busy in the year that has passed since we bid farewell to Bette Porter and The L Word.

The actress, who recently shared her behind-the-scenes photos from six seasons of lesbian drama on the groundbreaking Showtime series, has been cast in the Fox drama pilot Ride-Along as Chicago’s first female police chief. In the pilot, from Shawn Ryan (Lie to Me and The Shield), Beals will play opposite Jason Clarke (Public Enemies and the upcoming Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps).

The Fox pilot marks Beals’ second run with Ryan, the first coming last year when she reprised her role on the Fox drama Lie to Me as Assistant U.S. Attorney Zoe Landau, Tim Roth’s ex-wife and mother of their teen daughter Emily (Hayley McFarland).

The casting, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will have Beals playing good cop against Clarke’s “rogue cowboy cop.”

Beals has been piling up the credits since the end of The L Word: The actress appeared on the big screen opposite Denzel Washington in January’s post-apocalyptic thriller The Book of Eli.

With the series premiere of producer Ilene Chaiken’s Showtime reality series The Real L Word: Los Angeles set for June, landing the lead in a pilot for a broadcast network is one surefire way the actress can avoid popping in on what will surely be a hot mess.

And hopefully we’ll get to see our favorite Flashdance star in uniform, even if she is playing the good cop.

Are you looking forward to seeing more of JB?
