First photos surface for “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff

Production on the ABC Grey's Anatomy spinoff called Private Practice — which revolves around Kate Walsh's Dr. Addison Montgomery, and co-stars Taye Diggs (Day Break, Rent), Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy), Tim Daly (The Nine, Wings), Merrin Dungey (Alias), Paul Adelstein (Prison Break) and that annoying Piz guy from Veronica Mars, Chris Lowell (how did he get included with this illustrious bunch?) — is in full swing, and the first stills from the show's pilot episode (entitled "The Other Side of This Life – Part 1 and 2" and airing on Thursday, May 3 from 9:00-11:00 p.m.) have surfaced on the 'net.

But first, a summary of the spinoff plot:

Following a disastrous romantic episode, Addison Montgomery travels to Los Angeles to seek advice from her old medical school pals, Naomi (Merrin Dungey) and Jackson (Taye Diggs) who seem to have it all: a beautiful teenage daughter, a great marriage and a highly successful practice. Addison quickly learns that Jackson, also a successful TV health guru, has divorced Naomi. During the visit, she meets people who work at the practice: a widowed alternative medical doctor, a self-doubting therapist, and a male gynecologist who knows little about women.

Although the personal lives of those people may be a mess, professionally they stand out. For this reason, she decides to leave Seattle Grace behind, move to Los Angeles and join the Oceanside Wellness Group team.

Here are a few of the stills, with captions provided by me for your entertainment (and mine):

Tim Daly thinking, "thank God Kate got rid of those Zooey-Deschanel-run-amok bangs she wore at the GLAAD Awards."

Merrin and Kate agree that "Amy does look eerily like Ione Skye"

Taye Diggs comforts Merrin Dungey, assuring her that no, Isaiah Washington won't be auditioning for any parts.

"What?! There aren't any lesbians on this show? Damnit!"

Paul Adelstein and Amy Brenneman laugh about how great it is not to be hanging around courts or prisons.

Francie Merrin Dungey and Kate Walsh discuss going undercover for their next covert op. Oh, wait, wrong show. But maybe the writers can write in Kate and Merrin doing some coordinated spinning back kicks on some deadbeat dads. That would be cool.
