“Evening”: Is the A-list cast enough?

I’ve been looking forward to Evening for months now. How can you really go wrong with a cast that includes Vanessa Redgrave, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Toni Collette, Natasha Richardson and Claire Danes? I mean, why don’t you just rifle through my memories and pull out every actress who has ever turned my head or moved me to tears? Add to that the fact that Michael Cunningham (The Hours) co-wrote the screenplay with Susan Minot (the film is based on her novel), and it’s no wonder I’m salivating like a thespian-loving hound.

But I just watched the trailer, and now I’m drooling in a different, slack-jawed way. It looks, um, a little precious. Maybe I should just blame the song choice. Or maybe I should wave my own white flag, give up on the plot and just enjoy the view.

Speaking of that, here are some brief interviews with cast members, courtesy of MovieWeb (visit the MovieWeb site for interviews with Eileen Atkins, Mamie Gummer and Natasha Richardson):

Evening hits theaters June 29.
