Evan Rachel Wood gets cast as a vampire in “True Blood”

HBO is making my life without it difficult. When I was signing up for primetime cable, I tried to keep it to the minimum, and chose Showtime for The L Word, The United States of Tara and other random programming I occasionally enjoyed. But now they’ve gone and done it with True Blood, a vampire show starring Anna Paquin, Lizzie Caplan and the latest addition to the cast, Evan Rachel Wood.

That’s right — I’ve been converted.

You might recall that I’m a fan of Evan Rachel Wood, who has played gay several times, and is also able to sidestep any typecasting, rare for young actresses her age. She always gives memorable performances, and her return to television is something that has me excited — add that she’s playing a vampire queen named Sophie-Ann and I’m sucked in already (no pun intended).

Entertainment Weekly describes the role as “a 500-year-old vampire from France who is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. She’s a consummate diplomat who has (or had) many of history’s most famous people on speed dial.

If that’s not a fun and challenging role to land, than I suggest Wood quit acting now. Does it really get much better than ordering people around while looking fabulous and threatening to drain their necks?

Something tells me that Wood won’t have to alter her appearance much to play a vampire. She’s got the pale and psuedo-goth look down, and manages to make it fresh.

I can’t wait to see what kind of outfits they’ll put her in on True Blood, and how close she comes to Sooki (Anna Paquin). My hope is very, very close.

Wood will appear for two episodes on this upcoming season, but is speculated to return if True Blood is renewed. HBO, I better not be ordering you in vain.
