Ellen lands the cover of “Ladies Home Journal”

Ellen is really taking this “cover girl” thing seriously. Her beaming face is on the front of Ladies’ Home Journal this month, where she dishes on her career, her better-than-ever self esteem and the plans she and Portia have to buy a farm.

She tells the magazine:

I don’t need to be on camera. I’m not a workaholic. I love to spend time with my wife, my family, my animals … We’re looking for the right place to have a farm. Someplace like Massachusetts or Nantucket, with seasons. We could get an 1800s farmhouse with land and rescue animals. Then I’m done.

Portia also weighs in during the interview, talking about the couple’s biggest problem: Portia leaves half-empty beverages around the house. How horrible!

I do leave half-finished beverages everywhere. I usually have three cups of tea going at once. I’m Australian. That’s just what we do. And anyway, I was going to thank [Ellen] in our vows, for picking up all the glasses — and say that she’d have to do that for the rest of her life. She took that on. But she’s very good about it.

Ellen continues, talking about their famous white wedding and tears up, saying, “I never thought I’d have a wedding, and I did, and it meant more than I imagined.”

They’re so domestic! And considering fans of Scarlett Johansson are willing to pay thousands for a used tissue, I’m thinking Portia could make a bundle on selling her half-empty teas on eBay. Then at least Ellen won’t worry about the waste.

You can read the rest of the interview in the March issue of the magazine. Even if you don’t regularly buy Ladies’ Home Journal, it might do some good to prove that a lesbian cover subject has some buying power.
