This weekend at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Ellen DeGeneres won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host for the fourth year in a row, but lost what would have been her fifth win in the Outstanding Talk Show category to Rachael Ray.
When asked on the red carpet if she would consider following in Oprah Winfrey’s steps and refrain from submitting herself for awards in the future, Ellen deadpanned: “I’m not going to take my name out. Oprah has made so many bad choices. Look at her career.”
When her name was announced as Outstanding Talk Show Host, Ellen and her fiancée Portia de Rossi celebrated with a kiss.
Taking the stage to accept the prize, DeGeneres expressed her appreciation for the award, saying, "I never take this for granted."
She went on to say: "This has been a crazy year. We’ve done a lot of crying and a lot of laughing, and I cried all by myself and then people laughed" (referring to the adopted puppy incident last October).
When giving thanks at the end of her acceptance speech, Ellen stated emphatically, "Portia de Rossi, you’re spectacular," and ended with, "Life is beautiful!"
