Eliza Dushku gets into the funny business for a comedy pilot

She’s been a slayer, a morgue worker and an active. But now, Eliza Duskhu gets to flex her funny bone. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling and Dollhouse alum has been cast in a new comedy pilot alongside comedian Damon Wayans. The CBS show would center around a male-and-female sports radio hosting duo, which if you know anything about Eliza at all is right up her alley.

The show is based on the real-life ESPN personalities Colin Cowherd and Michelle Beadle, who co-host SPortsNation. Damon would play an outspoken sports talk show Nick Herd who, according to Deadline.com, is an “egotistical sports-radio host with a quick wit and cocky likability who is adored by his fans.” Dushku would be Casey, a “fun, quick-witted gal who is socially oblivious and pathologically blunt.”

Eliza broke the news herself on her official Facebook page yesterday when she posts: “It is with insanest excitement & awesomeness I get to finally fill you guys in: I’ve JUST landed a new CBS comedy pilot w/ my comic idol Mr. Damon Wayans!” She then confirmed she would be playing sport commentator Beadle when the two tweeted each other back-and-forth.

Eliza is a die-hard sports fan, as anyone who follows her on Twitter will know. And she has been dating former Lakers star Rick Fox since 2009. While her background has been primarily in dramas, Eliza has appeared on the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory and is more than capable to making us laugh. While I love her in tough breaking-bones mode, I think it’s about time she also tickled our funny bone instead.

She is the fourth former Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum to land a pilot this season. Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and little-Dawnie-no-more Michelle Trachtenberg have both been cast in their own pilots also for CBS. Gellar will play the role of twin sisters in a new drama Ringers, while Trachtenbeg is joining an ensemble workplace comedy. Aw, Scooby Gang reunion on the Tiffany Network. Mr. Giles, Anthony Stewart Head, has also joined a pilot, but for NBC.

So, excited about Eliza’s new gig? Thrilled to have so many Buffyverse players back on TV? And, even though she isn’t playing an ass-kicker on her new show, can we have Eliza still show up in leather pants at least once? I mean, come on, that’s just good TV.
