Eliza Dushku ain’t afraid of no ghosts

If there’s something new in the rumor mill, who you gonna blame? Ghostbusters.

I know, I know. But that song has been in my head since I read the news, so I thought you should share my, um, bliss.

Ghostbusters 3 has been a chaotic project, part of Hollywood plans and speculation since 2008. Last Christmas, we finally got confirmation that Ivan Reitman indeed will return as director with Dan Aykroyd (who played Dr. Raymond Stantz) and Harold Ramis (Dr. Egon Spengler) writing the script. Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett) and Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) also are on board.

The movie is projected to be released Christmas 2012, assuming the world doesn’t end with the Mayan Calendar on December 21.

During the Avatar press tour, Weaver said that Ghostbusters 3 would feature a new generation of Ghostbusters, led by Dana’s son Oscar. That means we get a new slate of stars — and a new spate of casting rumors, including one you’ll love: Eliza Dushku.

Actually, Aykroyd mentioned Dushku last year, saying that the new Ghostbusters team will include females and he would love to cast her. At the time, Dushku claimed to know nothing about it, but said she’d “love to zip on a proton pack.”

Now Dushku seems to be lending credence to the rumor. Last week she posted this picture from her recent appearance at Supernova in Australia.

“Check me out,” she Tweeted. “I REALLY like THIS get-up! Lol. Who ya gonna call!”

Dushku also said that she’s signed on to a big movie and is waiting for the studio to make an announcement. The movie could be Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers, in which she’s rumored to be Scarlet Witch, but I think she’d be a great Ghostbuster. We should find out more at the San Diego Comic Con in a few weeks.

Do you think Dushku looks good in a proton pack? What do you think about having a new generation of Ghostbusters?
