Dr. Arizona Robbins will stick around at Seattle Grace

Michael Ausiello, EW.com’s benefactor of all insider TV information, advised lesbians to “Holla!” yesterday when he announced that Jessica Capshaw is in final talks to become a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy. Barring any last minute contract complications, Capshaw will become the only lesbian series regular on broadcast primetime television next year.

Capshaw plays Dr. Arizona Robbins, Callie’s latest love interest/elevator-riding buddy on Grey’s. Their story so far has been served lighthearted with a side of sizzle. They’re even nominated for NewNowNext’s AfterEllen.com “Best Lesbian Kiss” Award.

If that looks vaguely familiar, I’ve got two words for you: Dean Porter.

Yep, Capshaw played Bette’s graduate assistant in the fourth season of The L Word. You might remember that scene where they — ahem — took a ride in Bette’s car after class.

Prior to her turn as the leggy Nadia Karella on The L, Capshaw was a series regular on ABC’s The Practice. She also played the mother of Agent Booth’s son on Bones.

Of course, once you kiss a girl, it opens up a whole new world. So, Capshaw has landed at Seattle Grace. My advice to Dr. Robbins? Always take the elevator. Callie spends half her days there, and the stairwell is full of regrets and recriminations.

How do you feel about Capshaw becoming a series regular on Grey’s?
