Diana Nyad and Abby Wambach make the Impact 10 list

Starting December 2, espnW.com has been announcing its Impact 10 list by revealing a different athlete each day. The picks are, Alex Morgan, Candace Parker, Inbee Park, Maya Moore, Elena Delle Donne. Yesterday, the site announced Abby Wambach as its choice for number five and today it revealed Diana Nyad as its pick for number four.

After helping to lead the U.S. Women’s national team to the Olympic Gold Medal in London, Wambach was named FIFA player of the year in 2012. In 2013 she built on that success and helped launch the NWSL before breaking Mia Hamm’s international goal record. She topped all of it off by marrying her longtime girlfriend Sarah Huffman in Hawaii. Not a bad year for Ms. Wambach.

As a bonus, Julie Foudy sat down, via Skype to chat with the superstar about her impact on the sport and just how she’s able to score so many goals.

Diana Nyad conquered the seemingly unconquerable in 2013. In her fifth, and final, attempt she swam from Cuba to Florida. Her feat, and her perseverance, inspired everyone from political leaders like President Obama to Hillary Clinton to athletes like Abby Wambach and Ryan Lochte.

Two of the spots have already been filled with out athletes and there are three remaining spots on the list that will be revealed this week. I’m hoping out basketball player Brittney Griner joins Wambach and Nyad. Who would you like to see make the list?
