Cynthia Nixon to float in the new year

Out actress Cynthia Nixon will be sitting pretty on New Year’s Day as part of the Tournament of Roses Parade. She will be waving from atop a Vera Bradley float (designed by Festival Artists Worldwide) that will apparently look a little something like this:

Nixon, a breast cancer survivor, was chosen to sit among three others who beat the diagnosis.

Being a breast cancer survivor and being able to show my support of this cause means a great deal to me,” Nixon says in the press release. “I am honored to be riding the Vera Bradley float amongst other survivors. We all have the same mission: Ultimately, finding a cure for breast cancer!”

2008 was a great year for Nixon — she won an Emmy for her guest star appearance on Law & Order: SVU, her work on Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth CD was nominated for a spoken word Grammy and she also happened to star in this movie you might have heard about, called Sex and the City.

Starting off 2009 on top of a parade float isn’t too bad. The rest of Nixon’s year so far is said to include a return to Broadway in Lisa Loomer’s Distracted. She plays “Mama” in the show, which will be at both the Laura Pels Theatre and the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre beginning in February.

Knowing Cynthia’s work ethic, there’s surely more to come.

Catch the Tournament of Roses Parade on ABC at 10 a.m. EST on New Year’s Day.
