Afternoon Delight: “Grey’s Anatomy” cast teams up for musical fundraiser, Lucy Liu to play Watson in CBS’ retelling of Sherlock Holmes’ adventures

Good afternoon and happy leap year!

Happy birthday to the late Dinah Shore! (You do know she wasn’t gay, right?)

Today Lady Gaga will be launching her Born This Way Foundation at Harvard University in Massachusetts. Oprah Winfrey, writer Deepak Chopra and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will appear at the unveiling and at the same time a protest will take place demanding to confer posthumous degrees to the seven Harvard students who were expelled in the 1920s on suspicion of being gay. If you don’t live anywhere near Harvard, you can watch footage of the event via livestream here beginning at 4 pm ET.

For all you Grey’s Anatomy superfans on Sunday, March 18 the cast of ABC medical doctor drama will perform Grey’s Anatomy: The Songs Beneath the Show. The live musical will benefit The Actors Fund and is being held at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. The cast (Jessica Capshaw, Justin Chambers, Eric Dane, Sarah Drew, Chyler Leigh, Kevin McKidd, Sandra Oh, Jim Pickens, Jr., Sara Ramirez, Kim Raver and Chandra Wilson) will perform selected songs from last season’s musical episode, as well as additional music from the show. Tickets range from $55 to the coveted $250 VIP tickets.

Charlie’s Angels actress Lucy Liu has signed on for the CBS series Elementary. Liu will star as Watson – Joan Watson that is – in the “retelling” of Sherlock Holmes and his adventures, while Sherlock himself will be played by Angelina Jolie‘s ex-hubby Jonny Lee Miller. Instead of jolly ol’ England, the crime fighting series will have the detective team solving mysteries in Manhattan. (Manhattan does have a lot of crime.)

Director Katherine Brooks (Loving Annabelle) is re-teaming with actress Erin Kelly and Aimee Allen for her new feature Off the Record. “The movie centers around two women, Charley (played by Allen), a tortured rock star with severe agoraphobia and Alex (played by Brooks), a music journalist sent to do a cover story on her.” Check out the film’s Kickstarter campaign to learn more about the project and aid Brooks in her fundraising efforts.

Glee‘s Jane Lynch dished to Politico about her run in with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Lynch said, “It was like small talk, but he didn’t really hear a word I said. It affirmed for me that the guy does not know how to relate to people.” Dear Mitt Romney, When Sue Sylvester is talking to you, you need to listen up! Sincerely, Bridget.

Congratulations to Jessie J ,Paula Patton, Naya Rivera and a slew other artists who received nominations for Logo’s fifth annual NewNowNext Awards (vote here).
