Morning Brew – Wednesday, January 11: “Anyone But Me” nominated for all the awards, “Revenge” gives us girls kissing

ily

Welcome to Wednesday, Brewbies!

Remember that lengthy discussion we had about whether or not ABC’s rookie cross-dressing comedy Work It was really uncool for transgender individuals? Well, ABC prez Paul Lee still doesn’t understand why GLAAD and HRC (and I) had a problem with it. Yesterday at TCA he told The Wrap:

In terms of the lesbian and gay community, we’re incredibly proud of the work that ABC does. That’s not just Modern Family; it’s Grey’s Anatomy, it’s Private Practice, it’s Dancing With the Stars. But in that particular case… I didn’t really get it. I love Tootsie … I still love Tootsie. I don’t find it to be offensive. So in that particular case I didn’t get it. But that’s probably me.

I loved Tootisie too – in 1982. Two decades later, I think we can do better. I’m not going to get worked up about it again, though. There’s no way the show – which may be the most critically reviled of the season – is going to last.

If you’re a fan of Anyone But Me (and who isn’t a fan of Anyone But Me), you’ll be happy to hear that in addition to their four Indie Soap Awards nominations, which will be announced on February 21st, the web series is also up for five International Academy of Web Television Awards. The inaugural event will be held tomorrow night and you can stream the whole thing live from this link. Rachel Hip-Flores, who is nominated for Best Female Performer, will be presenting at the event.

Thanks to AE reader Marysocontrary we’ve learned that Pan Am isn’t the only network show offering up a lesbian kiss this week. Apparently tonight’s Revenge has Amanda kissing a random girl in a bar.

Looks a little “hope my boyfriend don’t mind it” to me, but at least it’s not a last-ditch effort to pull in ratings. I’m looking at you, Pan Am. And you too, Charlie’s Angels.

30 Rock finally returns to NBC tomorrow night, which means it’s time for the onslaught of guest star casting news that follows that show wherever it goes. Like this: Yesterday Tina Fey confirmed that Emma Stone (along with Andy Sandberg and Nick Cannon) will be guesting on the Jan. 26 episode. She told TV Guide that the trio will be starring a new movie with Jenna called Martin Luther King Day, “from the producers of Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve. I want to lay claim to that bit before anyone gets it. It’s a movie that has everyone in the world in it.”

That bastion of intrepid entertainment journalism TMZ is claining that K.D. Lang has filed papers to dissolved her domestic partnership with nine-year girlfriend Jamie Price. We wish both women all the best.

Yesterday The Wall Street Journal reported that Democrats in New Jersey are ready to introduce a same-sex marriage bill to this legislative session with the same gusto we saw in New York last year. The good news: They say they have the votes to pass it in both houses. The bad news: New Jersey’s Governor Christie is no Andrew Cuomo. He’s on record as saying he’s “not a fan” of gay marriage, and that he wouldn’t sign a marriage equality bill. However, the New Jersey Star-Ledger thinks Democrats have enough momentum to bypass Christie and amend the state constitution.

Gay rights are going to be as hot a topic in 2012 as they were in 2011, maybe even more so depending on who finally snags the Republican presidential nomination. Kudos for NJ Democrats for standing on the side of what is right and arming themselves for battle.

Today’s les/bi TV on tap: The Talk (CBS 2 p.m.), The Rosie Show (OWN 7 p.m.), Tabatha Takes Over “Jungle Red: Minneapolis, MN” (Bravo 7 p.m.), The Rachel Maddow Show (MSNBC 9 p.m., midnight, 4 a.m.), Rosie O’Donnell on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC 12:35 a.m.)

Have a happy Wednesday, friends.
