Morning Brew – Wednesday, January 4: Rachel Maddows covers the Caucuses, Kate Moennig on her private life

Good morning!

If you have cable, you’ll be privy to the ID Channel’s new series on gruesome murders, which includes one about actual lesbian vampire killers in Australia. I’m so going to watch all 26 episodes of Killer Trials: Judgement Day, although I think they could have picked a better name.

Out Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has won the Costa Poetry Prize. Between her and Kay Ryan, lesbians are winning all the poetry awards!

Aubrey O’Day has joined the new season of Celebrity Apprentice and she’ll be playing for Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). If she wins, all the money goes to them, the charity of her choice. Go Aubrey!

Meghan and Cindy McCain have posed again for NOH8, in case you forgot they support marriage quality.

While we’re on the subject of politics, Rachel Maddow did an impeccable job reporting on the Iowa Caucuses for MSNBC last night. Here’s a clip of her discussing the Republican candidates that were neck and neck.

OpEdNews ran kind of a strange post celebrating lesbian movies as written by a dude. Thanks for the support, I guess.

Did anyone watch the premiere of The Bachelor the other night? I didn’t, but apparently bisexual contestant Monica “admitted she had no feelings for Ben because she’s into women.” This upset her competitor, Jenna, especially when Monica “got cozy with another fellow participant, Blakely.” Now I feel like I have to watch it — and another episode, at least, since Monica is still on the show! She got a rose!

In an interview with Diva from this month’s issue, Kate Moennig talks about people who are interested in her personal life. (AKA you, me and everyone we know.)

I don’t really deal with it on my end of the spectrum. It doesn’t come into my life. I’m not confronted by the people who are interested in me on a daily basis. I wouldn’t know how I would find that stuff out… I guess it comes with the territory. As long as that line of respect is drawn.

In The Life‘s latest episode is all about the people who spoke out for LGBT equality in the United States. It’s historical and emotional!

Jillian Michaels has been let go from The Doctors. Apparently she wasn’t a “good fit.”

Has anyone seen Jane Lynch on the new Healthy Choice commercial? She makes me want to buy what she’s selling.
