Morning Brew – Tuesday, January 3: Shay Mitchell talks Maya’s return on “Pretty Little Liars,” a full episode of “Portlandia”

Morning!

Did you watch Pretty Little Liars last night? Of course you did. Shay MItchell tells TVLine that we’ll be seeing more of Maya this season.

She comes back to Rosewood, and basically the girls get to renew the relationship but on different terms now, because Emily is a little bit of a different person. She has a lot more confidence. [Maya] has also been away for a while, so she has had some experiences that Emily doesn’t know about.

Wow, sounds like they might have a real relationship, with issues and everything!

A new season of Tabatha Takes Over kicks off Jan. 10 on Bravo and this season, she’s not just going into salons: She’s taking over all kinds of businesses, including a dog hotel! Here’s a look an episode from the new season.

Curve has an interview with Janet McTeer of Albert Nobbs, in which she discusses playing a woman who lives as a man named Hubert in 1860’s Ireland.

…what I loved about this script and film is that it takes place in a time before labels. And labels drive me, Janet, mad: that people get boxed into their job, their sexuality, their role in life. This is a film about people who didn’t judge each other because of their labels. There weren’t any labels. They were just themselves. Hubert’s just Hubert. If somebody said to me, “Is Hubert cross-gender, is Hubert transgender?” I’d just go, “I dunno, Hubert’s just Hubert.”

But you still won’t get anything out of her about her own sexual preferences.

I think people have always wondered about my private life and it’s not that I don’t want people to know about my private life; it’s more to do with the fact that if you don’t know a performer terribly well you can only see the character in front of you. You’re not thinking, “Ooh, I happen to know that person just got divorced…” You’re just seeing the person as they are and I think that helps a performance be better, because people can’t project something onto you that they think they know.

Sandra Bernhard is not a fan of fellow red-headed comedian Kathy Griffin! Here’s what she told Naughty But Nice with Rob:

Every time she sees me, she hides. If I saw her, I would tell her to find a new angle. Just to say someone is stupid, that’s not crafting an idea. I think things through. I absorb culture and put it out in layers.

I like both of their styles, personally!

If you still haven’t gotten into Portlandia or, perhaps, are as huge of a fan as I am, check out this Inside Portlandia special that aired on IFC last night.

What? You want more? OK, here’s an episode from the new season, which includes an Allergy Pride Parade and something really cool for BSG fans.

Don’t say I never did anything nice for you!
