Afternoon Delight: Rachel Maddow mocks FOX News outrage over Obama holiday card, Naya Rivera shills for Proactiv

Good afternoon!

Happy birthday to news anchor extraordinaire Diane Sawyer and the Emmy-nominated director of The Ellen DeGeneres Show Elizabeth Patrick!

The Kids Are All Right‘s Julianne Moore stars as Sarah Palin in HBO’s Game Change. Ed Harris plays the 2008 presidential hopeful John McCain and actress Sarah Paulson plays political commentator Nicolle Wallace in the historical drama set to debut in March 2012.

Moore’s TKAAR counterpart Annette Bening and her husband Warren Beatty were rumored to have had a difficult time when they first learned their daughter, now son, was transgender. The Daily Mail is reporting that during a recent family outing Beatty toasted his “brave son” Stephen. There isn’t much to this hearsay story, but if it is true it has a nice message.

Dame Helen Mirren will guest star on Glee when it returns on January 17. Mirren will be playing one of the character’s inner voices, so she will be heard but she will not be seen. I don’t blame them for not wanting to show Mirren on screen since her beauty would cast a shadow over the rest of the actors (and crew and any passersby). Tune into Fox on January 17 to hear Mirren’s inflection in action.

Speaking of Glee, did you know that Naya Rivera is the new acne-free face of Proactive?

Lesbian comedian Jackie Monahan is celebrating the season (and being a jackass at the same time).

Congratulations to the lesbian film Pariah for winning four (more) awards from the Black Film Critics Circle. Pariah was named Best Independent Film. Dee Rees received the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay award. And the film’s star, Adepero Oduye, was given the Rising Star award.

Photographer Tasya van Ree gave the newest Lisbeth Salander two thumbs up. (I don’t actually know if Ree’s thumbs were erect, but she did seem to like Rooney Mara‘s performance.)

Out dancer Sasha Mallory was the So You Think You Can Dance season 8 runner-up. She performed with Adam Lambert‘s Glamnation Tour and next she can be seen in a Wayne Brady music video. Brady tweeted about working with Mallory.

If you’re looking to give back this holiday season consider donating to the Ali Forney Center, which aids homeless LGBT teens and young adults.

Tomorrow night Chelsea Lately comedian Fortune Feimster will be performing at Goodnights in Raleigh, NC. Feimster will be taking the stage at 8pm and 10:15pm.b

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow weighs on the White House’s 2011 Christmas card. (Personally speaking, I don’t see baby Jesus is in the chandelier.)
