Afternoon Delight: Glenn Close plays ringmaster in New York, Lady Gaga wins Entertainer of the Year

Good afternoon friends!

Albert Nobbs star Glenn Close was uber excited to be the guest Ringmaster at the Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center in New York.

Lady Gaga has been crowned 2011’s “Entertainer of The Year” by the Associated Press. (Where does she put all her awards?) The AP award named Gaga the most influential person in entertainment and culture in 2011. (No pressure.)

Gaga issued a statement thanking the AP: “I am humbled and honored to be named ‘Entertainer of The Year’ by The Associated Press. My deepest gratitude to the broadcasters and journalists who’ve supported me over the years, and in turn, are now supporting the loves of my life: my fans. Thank you for believing in ‘Born This Way.’ May you continue to brave the dreams of Showbiz.”

The Advocate composed a list of 2011’s Most Googled Gay and Lesbian Celebrities. Which queer ladies made their list? Ellen DeGeneres, Rachel Maddow, Jillian Michaels, Jane Lynch, Portia de Rossi and Suze Orman.

Speaking of fitness guru Jillian Michaels, make sure to pick up the January 2012 issue of Self magazine to learn about “Jillian’s New Total-Body Turnaround.”

Australian actress Cate Blanchett will be taking The Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya to the New York stage. Her co-star will be Hugo Weaving, of Priscilla Queen of the Desert fame. The show will run July 19-28, 2012 at the New York City Center as part of the Lincoln Center Festival.

My Summer of Love actress Emily Blunt and Kristin Scott Thomas have teamed up for the comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, due out March 2, 2012. Check out the trailer below.
