Afternoon Delight: Rooney Mara on the cover of “Allure,” “Bridesmaids,” “Glee” and “Mildred Pierce” garner SAG noms

Good afternoon!

Happy birthday to actress Vanessa Hudgens (Sucker Punch), Michaela Watkins (Saturday Night Live) and professional lesbian matchmaker Dr. Frankie Bashan.

The Screen Actors Guild nominations have arrived! The ladies of Bridesmaids received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, Kate Winslet‘s performance in Mildred Pierce garnered her a nom for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries, Glee and 30 Rock are competing for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role went out to Glenn Close for Albert Nobbs and The Iron Lady‘s Meryl Streep. (Note to self: Self, use the word “outstanding” more freely. Love, Bridget.)

On January 21, the Producers Guild of America will bestow its 2012 Stanley Kramer Award on Angelina Jolie‘s directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey. The award is given to “a motion picture, producer or other individual, whose achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion.”

The sixth season of 30 Rock returns to NBC on Thursday January 12 at 8 p.m. Tina Fey‘s Liz Lemon apparently has a secret so watch the below teaser trailer and see if you can guess what she is hiding.

Yesterday, bisexual actress Nicol Paone (The Big Gay Sketch Show) announced on her Facebook page that she will be guest starring on an upcoming episode of the show. She wrote: “Flying to NYC today to do one of my favorite shows of all time. I’m playing a young Elaine Stritch in an Alec Baldwin flashback on 30 Rock.”

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s Rooney Mara looks quite alluring the cover of January’s Allure (on newsstands December 20.)

In the issue, Mara talks about being cast in the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander, saying: “I don’t think [director] David [Fincher]’s intention was ever to hire someone well-known. To make this movie, he needed someone that people were unfamiliar with because it’s the only way they would really believe this character. She’s such a mystery. You couldn’t hire someone that people already have a relationship with.” If you want more from Mara then watch her tonight on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman.

And check out the latest The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trailer, entitled “I need a research assistant.”

OK, seriously I’m done plugging TGWTDT – well, at least for today.

Tonight, Young Adult‘s Charlize Theron will stop by Chelsea Lately and comedian Kathy Griffin will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
