Morning Brew – Wednesday, Oct. 19: Inside Ellen and Portia’s home, casting begins for “The Corrections” movie

Happy Hump Day!

Have you read The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen? You need to. It’s one of my favorite novels and it also has a major lesbian character. You have about a year or so to read it probably before the film adaptation is made. Deadline.com reports that the HBO TV movie wants Chris Cooper and Diane Wiest for the roles of the parents. (The lesbian character is one of their three children.) The casting is already looking so good. I can’t wait to see who they pick to play Denise! (Seriously — read it.)

Portlandians love to recycle, but it sure gets confusing. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen are here to help you out!

Season 2 of Portlandia starts in January, aka too far away.

Want to see inside of Ellen and Portia’s humble abode? Check it out over at Architectural Digest. Just a reminder, guys, I’m available for parties.

It doesn’t sound like Grey’s Anatomy is giving Callie or Arizona much this season. TVLine notes that the couple will have “a really nice ‘moment'” with Mama O’Malley in the Nov. 3 episode. A moment. That’s all you get!

Marlene King talked with Hollywood Crush about adapting Mortal Instruments for the screen.

Naomi Watts says she almost quit film before she got Mullholland Drive. I’m so glad she didn’t! Hear that and more tidbits from these great actresses including Evan Rachel Wood in this ELLE Women in Hollywood video.

I love that Evan would want to play the same roles Winona Ryder has. They have similar sensibilities. And Freida Pinto loved Charlize Theron on Monster. Can we talk about how insanely great it is to hear female actors being asked about acting? Let’s make this happen more often.

Some New Zealand TV watchers are upset that the Coronation Street LESBIAN KISS!!! aired at 5:30 p.m. The network isn’t apologizing, saying, “A kiss is a kiss, whether that it is a same-sex kiss or a kiss between a man and woman. If necessary the show would be modified in order to comply with television broadcasting standards. We reviewed the content and there was no issue there for compliance.”
