Afternoon Delight: Christina Hendricks wants a shot at “Glee,” Joan Jett and the Blackhearts noms for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Happy birthday to Gwyneth Paltrow! The Glee actress turns 39 today.

Speaking of Glee, casting for The Glee Project Season 2 starts in November. Open casting calls will be held in New York, Chicago and Nashville. The show’s producers are looking for men and women over 18 “with strong vocal, acting and dancing abilities and oversized personalities.” If you’re interested head over to The Glee Project‘s casting site, register and submit your video.

You know who else wants to be on Glee? Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks (although they’d probably need a very wide lens for the buxom actress). Hendricks stars with Glee‘s Chris Colfer in the upcoming film Struck by Lightning and is interested in collaborating with him again on the award winning Fox show. She told E!, “He’s (Colfer) just amazing. This guy can do anything. I would love to be on Glee. I sing a bit.” I think Hendricks should play the school nurse.

Out actress Evan Rachel Wood stars in the upcoming political thriller The Ides of March and revealed that she thinks it’s natural for politicians to have sex scandals. (Bill Clinton is a big fan of Wood.) Wood said, “One of the best lines in the movie is, ‘You can start a war, you can bankrupt a country but you can’t sit with the interns.’ That’s the wake-up call. We make such a big deal about these sex scandals, which are actually the most natural things in the world and everyone has skeletons in their closet and it actually shouldn’t matter at all. I don’t want to know. People can do whatever they want with themselves and that’s fine. It has nothing to do with the way you conduct yourself at your job.” Here, here!

MTV’s O Music Awards are back! The second annual award show focuses on the “offbeat, outrageous and online” world and will air on October 31. Lady Gaga has been nominated for two awards; “Fan Army FTW” and “Must Follow Artist on Twitter” while Dolly Parton and Sinead O’Connor duke it out for “Best Vintage Viral Video.” My money’s on Parton!

Are you obsessed with Twilight? Then check out the musicians featured on the Breaking Dawn: Part 1 soundtrack. Why isn’t Sia on this album?

I’m crossing my fingers and toes for out rocker Joan Jett. Jett and the Blackhearts have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Class of 2012. Jett is competing against Heart, Donna Summer, Guns N’ Roses and a slew of other great artists. To be eligible all nominees must have released their first album or single at least 25 years ago. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes – and more than 50 percent of the vote – are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year. The winners will then be inducted on April 14, 2012 at the Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. Vote now!

Ringer star Sarah Michelle Gellar (she’ll always be Buffy to me!) sat down with Chelsea Handler and revealed one of her “most embarrassing moments ever.” Although, I don’t think it’s that embarrassing. Maybe I just have a disproportionate amount of embarrassing incidents.

Rihanna is upsetting the neighbors in her new music video. The superstar went topless during her “We Found Love” shoot in Northern Ireland. (Why don’t I live in Northern Ireland?) The farmer who owns the property on which Rihanna was shooting climbed up on his tractor to protest the nudity and demanded a dress code be enforced (i.e. put your damn shirt back on!)

The Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger has been treading water since her Sunday night appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. (Stanger made offensive and stereotypical comments about “gays” not being monogamous.) Stanger has since made numerous apologizes to the gay community and last night she went on CNN’s The Joy Behar Show to clarify her statements.

At the 1:44 mark she specifies that she’s only referring to the sexual practices of gay men. Stanger said, “Now this is not the lesbian. The lesbian gets involved, they move in together. They are quiet, they are at peace.” (We are? Obviously, Stanger does not read the comments or forums on AE.) She added, “I apologize if GLAAD was offended. I was the first person for gay marriage. I put it on the map, on television, where every network fought me, and I’m still there in the trenches.” Wait, I thought Tila Tequila, not Stanger, was the ultimate champion of LGBT rights.
