Afternoon Delight: Heather Peace joins “Waterloo Road,” Anna Paquin in “Margaret”

Good afternoon.

Happy birthday to Salma Hayek! Hayek, who starred as bisexual artist Frida Kahlo in the critically acclaimed 2002 film Frida, turns 42 today.

Out actress and comedian Wanda Sykes lends her voice to Ice Age: Continental Drift. Sykes plays Granny in the animated film alongside Queen Latifah as Ellie and Heather Morris as Gossip Girl. Ice Age: Continental Drift will be released in theaters on July 13, 2012.

Speaking of Heather Morris, the Glee star teamed up with Tyler Shields for the below video portrait. I found this black and white backwards video to be very sexy and very confusing.

The accompanying photo shoot Morris did with Shields is being criticized for promoting domestic violence, though Shields told E!, “In no way were we promoting domestic violence. We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot and that’s exactly what we did!” What do you think of the controversial shots?

Our Great LezBritain columnists Sarah and Lee tell us that out Lip Service star Heather Peace has just accepted a role in the BBC 1 drama series Waterloo Road. She’ll be playing a teacher at the school, but they can’t say much more than this at the moment. This role will mean that Peace is the only out actress in a major mainstream series in the UK. Says Peace, “I’m really excited about joining the cast of Waterloo Road. It’s a fantastic show with really strong storylines so I can’t wait to get started.”

After sitting on a shelf for six years Anna Paquin‘s drama Margaret is finally coming to theaters on September 30. Check out the film’s trailer below, co-starring The Kids Are All Right‘s Mark Ruffalo and Matt Damon.

On November 18, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 hits theaters. In the meantime try to tide yourself over with the below still of Kristen Stewart. Bella should look happier on her wedding day, don’t you think?

Last week Tellofilm.com’s co-founder and Cowgirl Up/McManusLand producer Christin Baker married Illinois State Representative Deborah Mell. Subsequently, Mell became the first lawmaker in the state to wed a same-sex partner. NBC News covered the Mell/Baker nuptials and spoke to the newlyweds who were legally married in Iowa since Illinois does not recognize gay marriage. Congratulations to the happy couple!
